Reshaping an Inclusive Natural History Film Industry
This group is focused on identifying tangible pathways to enhance diversity and inclusion within our industry sector through thoughtful practices and creation of early, pre- and mid-career development programs. In addition, the group is working to ensure BIPOC, all genders and ages, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ are adequately represented.
RESOURCES:
- Documentary Producers Alliance's Anti-Racist & Structural Equality Resource Guide
- European Producers’ Club Gender Charter of Good Practices
- Brown Girls Doc Mafia - Brown Girls Doc Mafia is an initiative advocating for over 3,300 women and non-binary people of color working in the documentary film industry around the world. We fight inequality by building community and sharing resources, nourishing our creative brilliance, demanding access and visibility in creative and professional environments, enriching our community with the knowledge to sustain ourselves financially, and by cutting through oppressive industry structures to advocate for our members.
- 500 Queer Scientists
- Black Girls Illustrate - A community celebrating black women artists and illustrators
- Women Who Draw - Women Who Draw is an open directory of female* professional illustrators, artists and cartoonists. It was created by two women artists in an effort to increase the visibility of female illustrators, emphasizing female illustrators of color, LBTQ+, and other minority groups of female illustrators.
- Examples of Audio Description - 50 films from the United States National Park Service, with examples of Audio Description (AD) and Subtitles for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH). This summer the Harpers Ferry Center for Interpretive Media, the design hub for the US National Park Service, celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Due to COVID, what would have been a couple of local film screenings became an online event with 50 films. I’m sharing because all of the films have AD and SDH. They are all done a little differently, so it is worth checking out a few to get a sense of it. As noted, worth experiencing with your eyes open and closed. Questions: Sarah_gulick@nps.gov
