Genevieve Belmaker

Genevieve Belmaker is a Contributing Forests Editor with Mongabay, and an award-winning journalist, author and editor with almost 15 years in the journalism and publishing industries. Her work has been published in MediaShift, the Middle East Eye, Harvard University’s Nieman Reports, Images and Voices of Hope, The Poynter Institute, Pacific Standard magazine, on Salon.com, and by the Society of Professional Journalists’ Quill magazine. Genvieve is founder and publisher of La Raza X Publishing, focused on amplifying the voices of women, the indigenous, and people of color. She is the author of several travel guidebooks to Israel, the West Bank, and Petra, Jordan for Moon Handbooks and Hachette Book Group. She is based in the Pacific Northwest with her two children, but considers New York City home.
Genevieve is or has been a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, the Society of Professional Journalists, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and the Newswomen’s Club of New York. She has a BA in International Relations from the University of Southern California and studied journalism at New York University.
