Through our Partner Labs, Jackson Wild collaborates with organizations locally and around the globe to support the next generation of storytellers in pushing the boundaries of how we understand our relationship with nature.
Latinx Film LabJackson Wild and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance are proud to present the 2023 Jackson Wild Latinx Film Lab, a week-long intensive program for mid-career Latinx Filmmakers based in the Southern California and the Baja California, Mexico area.
The Latinx Film Lab takes place from June 2nd to June 9th, at the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. During this time, 9 fellows are selected to work in teams of 3, creating short films that highlight some of the Zoo's unique stories. Fellows will work closely with Zoo staff to uncover narratives around various conservation efforts and the animals that reside at the zoo. The participants will learn from well-known natural history filmmakers about how their experience in a different genre can be adapted to tell engaging and intimate natural history and science stories. |

African Conservation VoicesThe African Wildlife Foundation and Jackson Wild have embarked on an exciting partnership to create the African Conservation Voices (ACV), an initiative which provides mentorship, training and resources for early to mid-career African video storytellers who have a demonstrated passion for conservation.
On the heels of our successful pilot, we’ve embarked on planning for additional workshops to take place. We welcome collaborations and partnerships that will augment and expand our efforts. |
Santiago Wild Media LabBetween March 23 and 30, 2023, the Santiago Wild Festival hosted their first Audiovisual Lab, thanks to the support of National Geographic and Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. It consisted of an innovative workshop in Latin America, modeled after the Jackson Wild Media Lab and in collaboration with Jackson Wild, where 12 individuals from Latin America learned from industry leaders on science communication, audiovisual projects, and impact campaigns, and made short films presented at the festival.
The Santiago Wild Audio Visual Lab provided scholarships to 12 selected students covering transportation, lodging, and food during these 8 days. |

Cinematography LabIn partnership with the American Society of Cinematographers and Wildlife Society of Filmmakers, Jackson Wild launched a specialized programming track at the 2022 Jackson Wild Summit for experienced and established cinematographers, specifically focused on refining techniques and skill sets.
This program was a small group intensive led by a group of award-winning cinematography mentors including Paul Atkins, ASC, and Stephen Lighthill, President of the ASC. Throughout the week, the Cinematography cohort worked together on a series of early morning shoots followed by group analysis and critique to share perspectives and perfect artistic skill sets using latest camera and lenses in a unique and collaborative professional development experience with masters of the craft. |
