Thandiwe Mweetwa

Thandiwe Mweetwa is a wildlife biologist working on large carnivores and threats to their persistence with the Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP). As Project Manager for ZCP’s Luangwa site in Eastern Zambia, she coordinates research, conservation and outreach activities in South Luangwa National Park (SLNP), Luambe and the adjoining Game Management Areas (GMAs). Thandiwe is a supporter of community-based conservation and is dedicated to exploring innovative and meaningful ways of integrating local communities into long-term conservation programs. Thandiwe is also passionate about promoting interest in nature-based careers among local youths. In 2016, she initiated the Women in Wildlife Conservation Training Program aimed at providing training and opportunities for Zambian young women to pursue careers in the wildlife sector.
Thandiwe is a National Geographic Explorer and an alumna of the Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa Program. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Animal Biology and a Master’s degree in Natural Resources Conservation.
