Shifting Programming for a World on Lockdown (Producing in a pandemic)

When the world stops, how do we keep our industry going? When film crews can't travel and access to locations are cut off, what are some strategies and opportunities we can use to keep learning and producing alive? How can we pivot?

Science Communication Research and Filmmaking: Building Bridges

Science communication researchers have been studying a variety of topics such as audience engagement, science curiosity, social impact, and visualization best practices. The science communication practice community, including filmmakers, has years of practical experience with best practices in the field, knowledge of gaps and resources, and so on. However, these two communities have been mostly disconnected from each other, leading to a lack of information exchange and collaboration between the two. In this panel, we will learn from researchers and filmmakers who have found ways to bridge this gap and connect research to practice. We will learn about their successes, challenges, and perspectives.

What NGO’s Can Teach Us About Film Impact

NGOs and a funding grant foundation discuss their experiences with film outreach and audience engagement campaigns. Find out what works well from their side of the fence. What makes a good partnership? Which films have worked well for awareness building versus membership incentives and fundraising? What kind of disappointments and lessons learned from past experiences? What advice do you have for impact producers & filmmakers about approaching them? NGO’s – The difference between ‘in-kind’ contributions and a financial ask? When does it make sense to get involved financially? How do they measure success for their involvement?

Wild Women: Oceans & Conservation

The title says it all. These fearless five women are looking to change the way we see our ocean. Through different mediums of science and visual storytelling, each looks to the ocean as a new vector for exploration. Join them as they each tell their stories of what it’s like working and filming under the sea.

Are games the next frontier in wildlife storytelling?

Our panelists will discuss the power of games for both storytelling and behavior change and how those strengths can be applied to wildlife and its conservation.

Jackson Wild Action Coalitions

Jackson Wild is delighted by the overwhelming engagement with our Action Coalition Initiatives as we reimagine together how nature, science, conservation, and media can work to protect and restore our planet's natural systems. During the 2020 Virtual Summit, we held open forums for everyone that had contributed to the coalition thus far and heard from many members of the Jackson Wild community.
