BY TRAIN
ÖBB is the regional train between Vienna and Burgenland.
To help plan your trip by train, and to check times, download the ÖBB Scotty app:
https://www.oebb.at/en/fahrplan/fahrplanauskunft/scottymobil
From the airport the trip is longer than from within the city, as you will need to travel into Vienna, and then transfer to a Burgenland-bound train.
TRAINS TO WALLERN (Vila Vita):
Wallern is the closest train station to Vila Vita Pannonia. From Vienna’s Main Station to Wallern, the ride typically involves one transfer and takes about 1h 20 min. (varies, so check the app/schedule).
Note: There are two different towns called “Wallern.” Be sure the one you are searching is the one in Burgenland (NOT “Wallern an der Trattnach”, which is in the opposite direction!)
The price of a single ticket starts at 18.20 Euros.
TRAINS TO FRAUENKIRCHEN (St. Martin's)
Take the same train as above (to Vila Vita), but get out at Station FRAUENKIRCHEN - call St Martins and they pick you up, phone: +43 2172-20500+43 217-0500
TRAINS TO ILLMITZ/APETLON
For those traveling to Illmitz or Apetlon, traveling by car or shuttle would be much more convenient.
Otherwise, at the station where passengers to Wallern typically transfer to another train, those going to Illmitz or Apetlon would transfer instead to a bus (bus stop next to the train station). The same bus (line 290) that goes to Illmitz, continues on the same route to Apetlon. The price of a single ticket starts at 17 Euros.
If considering this option, download the VOR A nach B app, to help you plan your route and times:
https://www.vor.at/en/timetables-mobility/vor-apps/vor-anachb-app
Taking the train to Wallern, instead, and then a taxi or shuttle to your destination may be a simpler option, and especially worth considering, if traveling in the evening.
IMPORTANT for evening travelers: check your connecting times, since public transportation to Wallern ends well before midnight, and to Illmitz it ends rather early in the evening!
